PCTrack® Ranging

Patented 3D Radar Solution

PathControl Patented 3D Radar Solution for Passive Magnetic Ranging: PCTrack®

PathControl has developed a unique solution for Passive Magnetic Ranging (PMR) called PCTrack® Ranging Technology that not only determines the distance and direction from the reference well to the target well, but that also associates quantitative relative uncertainties (distance and direction) based on modelling method used, noise identified, input parameters accuracy and raw data quality.

Ranging Technologies

Ranging technologies are solutions that enable to detect nearby offset wellbores for the purpose of collision avoidance, twinning, and/or intersecting.

PCTrack® Solution

PathControl has developed and patented a unique 3D Passive Ranging Solution, which is believed to be the most cost effective and less intrusive technology as it does not require any additional hardware as the one being used and run downhole to drill conventional directional drilling wells.

During the planning and the execution of the well, it may be required to determine with greater accuracy the distance and direction from our well to the offset well. In such event, a detailed survey shot acquisition program including frequency, depth and operational procedures is defined.

Collision Avoidance

Passive Magnetic Ranging in real-time is mainly used as a prevention and mitigation action in case of risks of collision, or when drilling in close vicinity to offset wells. Our ranging experts will monitor and analyse 24/7 in real-time the magnetic field and regularly inform the operator and the directional driller in case of the presence of offset wells nearby and if these are closing to us or diverging.

Sidetrack

When drilling close to a nearby cased well, the MWD suffers from magnetic interference. PathControl's objective is to correct the azimuth from the magnetic perturbation using PCTrack® technology in order to provide accurate synthetic directional survey to the directional driller.

This methodology helps saving dedicated gyro runs while performing a sidetrack for example.

Intercept & Open-Hole Re-entry

Well intercepts are becoming a more common technology in the oil and gas industry. This may be required when drilling a relief well or when a well needs to be Plug & Abandon but access to the well has been compromised due to casing corrosion or has collapsed. Intercept can also be required for deep geothermal project, river crossing or even re-entering an open-hole under an abandoned fish.
